RT by @SpaethFlies: Two aircraft. One runway. 583 lives lost. Today marks the anniversary of the Tenerife air disaster, still the deadliest accident in aviation history. It wasn’t a single mistake. It was a chain. Fog. Pressure. Assumptions. Two highly professional crews, both believing they understood the situation… and a breakdown in communication that left no margin for recovery. That’s the uncomfortable truth about aviation, and about life more broadly. Catastrophe rarely arrives in one moment. It builds, quietly, step by step, until there’s no space left to correct it. While researching JUMBO, I had the privilege of speaking with Dorothy, a flight attendant on the Pan Am aircraft that day. She survived. And what stayed with me wasn’t just the sequence of events, it was the human side. The confusion. The disbelief. The seconds where everything changed. And the resilience required to carry that experience forward. We often talk about Tenerife in terms of procedures and lessons learned, CRM, communication, decision-making under pressure. And those lessons reshaped aviation forever. But behind all of that are people. Lives interrupted. Stories that didn’t get to finish. It remains one of the most important reminders in aviation: Clarity matters. Humility matters. And good judgement is everything. If you want to understand not just the history of the 747, but the human stories that shaped modern aviation, my book JUMBO explores moments like this in depth. Available now at all good bookstores. #Tenerife #AviationHistory #JumboBook #Boeing747 #CRM #HumanFactors #AvGeek #DecisionMaking #NeverForget

RT by @thewarzonewire: In our latest update below, we mention the burst of air transport traffic at Diego Garcia. From the post: We are seeing a major airlift operation underway at the remote outpost in the Indian Ocean, Diego Garcia. Five C-17s and a C-5 were visible on the main ramp at the airfield today. This is a sudden uptick in aerial logistics on the island. There has been a contingent of KC-135R tankers that have been using the island, as well as a handful of F-16s protecting it. And while a transport or two would be seen coming and going, this is an airlift operation that is much larger. There had been some talk that air defenses were being moved from Asia to the island after Iran supposedly took two ballistic missile shots at it. The Navy also continues to use its port facilities there to support ships that are taking part in Epic Fury. The USS Tripoli and its escorts just stopped by there on their way to the Middle East, for instance. But this could also be the logistics surge before a bomber deployment. While B-52s and B-1s operate at a high tempo from RAF Fairford in the UK, the B-2s are still flying missions from the United States. This could be about to change.

RT by @SpaethFlies: All but four of the passengers injured in Sunday's deadly Air Canada collision have been released from the hospital, the airline said Wednesday, as crews moved the CRJ-900 into a hangar at New York's LaGuardia Airport. In an interview with media on Wednesday, NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said that the air traffic controller who was directing traffic during the crash was interviewed by NTSB investigators late Tuesday night. Homendy also said that interviews were conducted Wednesday with the other controller who was in the tower at the time, as well as the controller in charge, the air traffic manager and the operation supervisor. She said that the workload faced by the two controllers who were on shift at the time of the collision was "concerning."

RT by @SpaethFlies: Air Canada’s CEO, Michael Rousseau: “I am deeply saddened that my inability to speak French has diverted attention from the profound grief of the families and the great resilience of Air Canada’s employees, who have demonstrated outstanding professionalism despite the events of the past few days.” “Despite many lessons over several years, unfortunately, I am still unable to express myself adequately in French. I sincerely apologize for this, but I am continuing my efforts to improve.” Michael Rousseau has been criticized for the four-minute condolence video posted online that included only two French words – “bonjour” and “merci”. Canadian Government summoned Air Canada CEO Michael Rousseau to Ottawa after he released English-only condolence video for victims of fatal LaGuardia Airport crash PM Carney condemned Rousseau's video while Quebec leaders called for his resignation. #airlines #aviation
